Walk for Autism

The sun shone at the Regatta Centre as 400 people walked to raise funds for kids with Autism & special needs on Sunday. Premier, Barry O’Farrell together with local MPs, David Bradbury, Marise Payne, Stuart Ayres and Bart Bassett laced up their joggers and walked 5 kilometers to increase awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders and support local charities, the Luke Priddis Foundation and Little by Little Inc.

"At the moment we have raised over $5000 but people have until May 28 to return their sponsorship money to the Foundation or Little By Little," said Shonagh Bennett, Community Liaison Officer for the Luke Priddis Foundation.

The money raised will go toward the Luke Priddis Foundation support network and Kurrumbee School. "We rely on the generosity of the local community to run our support network initiatives, which include playgroups, support groups, Lego clubs and a social skills program," said Luke Priddis.

"The Walk is about raising awareness and offering families a fun day out in aid of those with Autism. Without our dedicated volunteers and generous sponsors, Jim Aitken and Partners Real Estate, Penrith Valley McDonalds, Embroid Me and Nepean Rotary the event would not be possible," said Mr Priddis.

Autism causes deficits in three key areas; communication, social interaction and imaginative thought and play "We are pleased to be able to use the funds from the walk to make a positive difference in the lives of children with Autism through the provision of intervention and support programs," said Mr Priddis.
